Manchmal passieren Wunder. Nicht nur das ich mit einem Gebot bei Ebay: William S. Baring-Gould: "Nero Wolfe, 35th Street West, New York City" erstanden, das Buch, das gerade eingetraf, ist unerwarteter Weise auch die Deutsche Ausgabe. Ein erster Blick ins Buch, zeigt das die Meinung Baring-Goulds sich mit meiner (der Autor dieser Seiten) zu decken scheint. Da hat Dan Browns "Sakrileg" einen Konkurenten bekommnen. Das lese ich zur Zeit. Das Buch hat zwar seine Reiz, an der Darstellung der Charaktere ist Brown Rex Stout aber absolut unterlegen.
Hier und anderswo hinterlasse ich sicher bald noch mehr.
Manchmal verfliegt die Euphorie aber schnell, wenn Ihr weiterlesen drückt wißt Ihr warum
Es gibt einiges kritisches anzumerken, obwohl ich noch nicht durch bin.
Der größte Hammer ist jedoch die Behautung von Baring-Gould, Wolfe und Vucic seien Brüder und zudem Söhne von Sherlock Holmes und Irene Adler -
Aufhänger.
Aufhänger dieser "Theorie" sind die unterschiedlichen Angaben über den Geburtsort von Nero Wolfe in Zu viele Köche und Nur über meine Leiche.
Dies ist <span class="abbr" title="meines Erachten">m.E. leicht auzuräumen Josef Quack erklärt im Anschluß an John J. McAleer, Stout habe die Staatsbürgerschaft Wolfes in US-amerikanisch in Nur über meine Leiche (USA; Over My Dead Body) nur auf Wunsch seines Verlegers verändert.
Ich habe mich in dieser Hinsicht an The WolfePack gewandt. Hier zwei Antworten im Original, wobei ich nach Absprache mit Carol einen Titel verändert habe.

I think in Over Wolfe states he grew up in Montenegro. I don't remember if
it says he was born there. In "Over my Dead body", Wolfe tells the FBI he was born here. In all later books, including Black Mountain, and some earlier ones,
Wolfe does state that was born in Montenegro. In "The Cop Killer" he says
he was not born in the US.
Some silly Sherlock Holmes fans (and I have read that Baring-Gould STARTED
the silly story) write about Wolfe being the son of Holmes and Irene Adler
(Holmes woman friend). Wolfe fans don't like it and Stout didn't like it.
In fact, when asked to speak at a Holmes dinner he came up with a theory,
that is available on my site somewhere, the "Watson was a Woman."
Sherlockians did NOT like that!! They supposedly "boo-ed" Stout (made rude
noises to indicate they disagree with the speaker or think the actor is
doing a poor job, or ....)
Baring-Gould: Bah!

That book is full of inaccuracies. Baring-Gould was a Sherlock Holmes fan
who wrote some Sherlock Holmes Books in which he surmised a number of things
not in the books. Then he decided to do the same for Nero Wolfe. Pfui! It
was published by Stout's publisher, Viking, 2 years after Baring Gould died.
I think someone else finished his manuscript. That person probably knew
less than he did about Wolfe.
There are a few books that are still in print about Wolfe and many out of
print books. All that I know of are listed here:

any were ever translated.
